Frequently Asked Questions
What information or data do you collect?
When listing a geocache here, you must create an account. We capture a login name that
you create, your email address, IP address, and host name. When listing a geocache, we
capture the waypoint, geocache name and optional fields such as country, state, and
whether it is a multi step cache. When voting on a geocache, we capture nothing more
than your IP address, host name and your vote.
WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?
Other than the data listed above, we collect NO other information. Your account
information such as your email address is used STRICTLY for managing the geocaches you
have listed here. The information will NEVER be used for ANYTHING else. It will never
be sold or given away. It will remain locked up unless we are required by law enforcement
to turn it over. This website uses cookies. These cookies are used strictly to store
your session state and to log your voting record. NO OTHER information is stored in
these cookies.
I love this idea. Is there anything I can do to help?
We are always open to ideas and suggestions. In fact, many suggestions from users
have already been implemented. From a development perspective, there isn't really
anything that needs help with at the moment. But, if you are feeling generous and
want to help with the high expense of hosting and developing this website, feel free
to send your donation. This website is NOT FOR PROFIT and any donations you send will
go directly to running the website. The two largest expenses we have are the
connection to the Internet and our annual software maintenance.
Do you prevent fraudulent voting?
Although it is impossible to completely prevent fraudulent voting, we do use two
different standard technologies to minimize it. But the bottom line is, if someone
really wants to waste their time just to cast multiple votes for the same geocache,
there's a good chance they are going to figure out how to do it.
